Kuehne+Nagel and WFS Launch Trucking Control Tower at Frankfurt Airport

Share

Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) and Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) have introduced a trucking control tower at Frankfurt Airport, aiming to streamline cargo handling and reduce air freight delivery times.

Developed by WFS’ E-commerce & Freight Forwarder Handling (EFFH) team, the control tower schedules truck movements between WFS’ FCS Frankfurt Cargo Services facility and K+N’s gateway warehouse, allowing faster cargo processing and real-time customer request handling.

Key Benefits & Early Results

🚀 Faster Air Cargo Deliveries: Early trials show significant improvements in cargo delivery times.
📦 Direct Cargo Transfer: Import cargo is loaded onto WFS/FCS trucks and delivered directly to K+N, eliminating the need to wait for truck drivers to register at WFS facilities.
🔄 Real-Time Coordination: The control tower enhances communication and resource planning between both companies.

K+N Vice President Michael Jonas highlighted:
“This pilot project in Frankfurt is designed to demonstrate how WFS’ EFFH handling and clearance processes can accelerate air cargo delivery by reducing clearance times and enabling more efficient resource planning.”

WFS’ Soheyl Rahmani added:
“This enhanced import delivery service will make Frankfurt’s import cargo handling process more efficient, ensuring freight forwarders a more reliable and cost-effective service.”

Potential Expansion & Industry Impact

The success of the Frankfurt pilot program could lead to broader cargo handling enhancements at the airport and potentially influence WFS’ operations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

This initiative marks another step in improving speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in global air cargo logistics.
