Noida International Airport has taken a major step towards becoming a key logistics gateway for northern India after handling its first domestic cargo flight, coinciding with the start of commercial operations at the country’s newest airport.
The airport, which officially welcomed its first passengers on 15 June, is set to serve as a new gateway for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh, while strengthening India’s growing air cargo network.
The inaugural domestic freighter operation was processed at the airport’s Multi Modal Cargo Hub by ground handling company Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited, marking the beginning of cargo activity at the facility.
The flight, operated by Afcom Holdings Ltd, arrived from Chennai on Wednesday aboard a Boeing 737-800F carrying almost 20 tonnes of freight, including perishable goods and precision engineering components.
New logistics hub aims to accelerate supply chains
The cargo operation forms part of a wider 87-acre integrated logistics development designed to improve the movement of goods between manufacturing centres and consumer markets across northern India.
The development combines an integrated cargo terminal with warehousing and logistics facilities, with operators aiming to reduce turnaround times and streamline cargo handling processes.
Airport officials say the facility will support faster and more efficient freight movements while enhancing connectivity between inland production hubs and international trade routes.
The project is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience as India continues to invest heavily in modernising its transport infrastructure.
Gateway for domestic and international trade
Noida International Airport is positioning itself as a strategic hub for both domestic cargo distribution and global trade.
By linking inland supply chains directly with international aviation networks, the airport aims to create a more efficient route for exporters and importers serving one of India’s fastest-growing economic regions.
The launch of cargo operations also underlines the increasing importance of multimodal logistics in India’s aviation strategy, as airports evolve beyond passenger gateways into integrated trade and distribution centres.
The arrival of the first freighter marks an early milestone for the airport, which is expected to play an increasingly significant role in supporting economic growth, manufacturing expansion and cross-border commerce in the years ahead.
With commercial passenger services now under way and cargo operations beginning to scale up, Noida International Airport is seeking to establish itself as one of India’s most important new aviation and logistics hubs.
