ECS Group Subsidiary Partners with airBaltic

ECS Group’s UK subsidiary, Globe Air Cargo UK, has entered into a new partnership with airBaltic, taking on responsibility as General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA) for the airline’s cargo operations in the UK.

The agreement aims to maximise load factors and expand cargo opportunities across key UK gateways and Baltic destinations.

Expanding UK–Baltics Cargo Connectivity

Under the deal, Globe Air Cargo UK will manage belly cargo capacity on airBaltic’s network from:

  • London Gatwick
  • Manchester
  • Aberdeen

Since 6 March 2026, the GSSA has been commercially responsible for 17 weekly flights from London Gatwick to Riga and Tallinn.

Additional network developments include:

  • Aberdeen–Riga flights launching 2 June 2026 (twice weekly)
  • Manchester services resuming 13 December 2026

The partnership opens up new routing opportunities to the Baltics and wider European markets that were previously underserved from the UK.

Leveraging Digital Capabilities and Market Expertise

Jean Ceccaldi, CEO of ECS Group, said the agreement creates a “win-win” opportunity, combining expanded cargo access with enhanced digital capabilities.

He highlighted Globe Air Cargo UK’s ability to offer:

  • Efficient digital booking processes
  • AI-supported shipment documentation
  • Strong local market knowledge

These capabilities are expected to improve efficiency and drive higher load factors for airBaltic’s cargo operations.

Supporting E-Commerce and Mail Growth

airBaltic operates a modern fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft, well suited for:

  • E-commerce shipments
  • Mail
  • General cargo
  • Live animal transport

This positions the airline to capture growing demand for lightweight, high-frequency cargo flows across Europe.

Strengthening a Longstanding Relationship

Steve Hughes, Managing Director of Globe Air Cargo UK, noted that the partnership builds on a seven-year relationship, during which the team has supported airBaltic’s UK operations through handling, promotion and revenue generation.

He added that the GSSA appointment reflects the airline’s confidence in Globe Air Cargo UK’s ability to deliver continued growth.

Positioning Latvia as a Logistics Gateway

Ilja Seliverstovs, Vice President Cargo at airBaltic, said the airline is focused on establishing Latvia as a key logistics hub in Northern Europe.

He pointed to investments in fleet modernisation and cargo infrastructure in Riga, with the new partnership adding commercial expertise to support future growth.

Driving Growth Across European Trade Lanes

The collaboration is expected to enhance cargo flows between the UK and Baltic region, while strengthening airBaltic’s position in the European cargo market.

By combining network expansion, digital innovation and local expertise, both companies aim to unlock new opportunities across key trade lanes.
