Digital freight platform Freightos has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Digitalisation Leadership Charter, supporting industry efforts to expand interoperable digital standards across the global air cargo sector.
The move aligns Freightos with a growing group of aviation and logistics organisations working to improve connectivity, data sharing and digital collaboration throughout the air freight supply chain.
Freightos, a vendor-neutral platform for freight pricing, booking and procurement, said the Charter focuses on five key priorities designed to accelerate the industry’s digital transformation.
These include promoting global interoperability and common data standards, strengthening cybersecurity and digital resilience, advancing paperless and sustainable cargo operations, encouraging innovation and automation, and supporting the responsible adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
Focus on industry-wide connectivity
Pablo Pinillos, Chief Executive and Interim Chief Financial Officer of Freightos, said digital connectivity is becoming increasingly important as supply chains become more complex and data-driven.
“Real-time digital connectivity and interoperable data exchange are becoming increasingly important across global freight workflows,” he said.
Mr Pinillos added that common standards and industry collaboration are essential for reducing integration challenges and enabling more efficient communication between airlines, freight forwarders, shippers and technology providers.
He said greater connectivity would help create a more agile, intelligent and resilient global freight ecosystem over time.
Supporting air cargo digitalisation
The IATA Digitalisation Leadership Charter was established to encourage industry-wide adoption of digital standards and modern data-sharing practices across air cargo operations.
A key focus of the initiative is the promotion of ONE Record, IATA’s data-sharing standard designed to replace traditional document-based processes with a single, interoperable source of shipment information.
Jonathan Parkinson, Head of Cargo Digitalisation at IATA, welcomed Freightos to the initiative.
“Digital transformation requires collaboration across the entire air cargo ecosystem,” he said.
“The participation of leading digital platforms helps strengthen our collective efforts to advance data sharing, interoperability and the adoption of industry standards such as ONE Record.”
Industry pushes towards paperless operations
The announcement comes as airlines, freight forwarders and logistics providers increasingly invest in digital tools to improve operational efficiency, visibility and sustainability.
Industry leaders view greater automation and standardised data exchange as critical to reducing administrative complexity, improving shipment tracking and accelerating the transition towards fully paperless cargo operations.
By joining the Charter, Freightos is expected to play a role in supporting broader industry efforts to modernise air cargo processes and improve digital connectivity across global supply chains.
