Frankfurt Airport (FRA) achieved substantial growth in cargo operations during 2024, with total cargo volumes—including airfreight and airmail—rising by 6.2% compared to the previous year, reaching 2.1 million metric tons.
Aircraft movements also increased, climbing 2.4% year-on-year to 440,853 takeoffs and landings. Additionally, total maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) grew by 2.8% to approximately 27.8 million metric tons, underscoring robust demand for both passenger and cargo services.
Monthly Performance Highlights
In December 2024, FRA experienced a slight dip in cargo throughput, which declined by 1.2% year-on-year to 169,135 metric tons. Aircraft movements for the month decreased by 0.7% to 33,304, while MTOWs saw a marginal decline of 0.1%, standing at around 2.2 million metric tons.
Global Cargo Hub Resilience
Despite minor fluctuations in monthly figures, Frankfurt Airport’s 2024 performance underscores its importance as a global cargo hub. The airport demonstrated resilience in managing high volumes of airfreight and airmail traffic, solidifying its position as a key player in international logistics.
