FedEx has announced plans to expand its gateway facility at Clark International Airport (CRK) in the Philippines, following a strategic agreement with Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD), the operator and manager of the airport.

The 17,000 square meter facility, which originally opened in October 2021, is designed to support local businesses and e-commerce growth, currently capable of sorting up to 9,000 parcels per hour. The existing setup includes a dedicated freight-handling area covering 630 square meters.

The expansion will more than double the facility’s size, incorporating new aprons and taxiways. This development aims to enhance access to international markets for import and export shippers, catering to the increasing demand for e-commerce, freight, and cold-chain shipments throughout the Asia Pacific region.

The signing ceremony at the FedEx Gateway was attended by notable officials, including Joshua Bingcang, President and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA); Arrey Perez, President of Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC); and Noelle Meneses, Vice President for Business Development and Business Enhancement at Clark Development Corporation (CDC).

This expansion aligns with the vision of BCDA, CDC, and LIPAD to transform CRK into a global civil aviation logistics hub for international cargo.

Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director of FedEx Philippines, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are pleased to sign this agreement that symbolizes our intent to kick-start the expansion of our gateway at Clark. Since our establishment in 1984 in the Philippines, we remain committed to continuously enhancing our network and service offerings to support the growing needs of our customers and strengthen their connection to overseas markets. This expansion is a testament to our strong commitment in facilitating cross-border trade and optimizing the country’s supply chain capabilities.”

Noel Manankil, President and CEO of LIPAD, added, “This landmark agreement embodies our unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable development and economic vitality in the region, ensuring a brighter future for us and for the whole community.”

The expanded facility is expected to play a critical role in supporting the burgeoning e-commerce and logistics needs in the region, positioning CRK as a pivotal hub for international trade.
