Ethiopian Cargo has further bolstered its operations with the addition of a new Boeing 777 freighter, registered ET-BAB, marking another step in the airline’s commitment to global growth.
The new aircraft made its inaugural flight carrying humanitarian aid, as announced by Ethiopian Airlines in a LinkedIn post on January 23.
“We are proud to expand our capacity and enhance global operations with the addition of a new Boeing 777 Freighter Aircraft, ET-BAB,” the airline stated. “This milestone strengthens our ability to serve global markets with greater efficiency and reliability, meeting the rising demand for air freight services worldwide.”
The airline highlighted the new freighter’s role in reinforcing its expansive network and delivering top-tier service to customers. The humanitarian focus of its first mission also underscores Ethiopian Cargo’s dedication to corporate social responsibility.
Flightradar24 data reveals that the aircraft departed Boeing’s Everett factory in Washington on January 21 and arrived at Ethiopian Airlines’ headquarters at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport the following day. On January 24, the 777F embarked on a journey from Addis Ababa to Brussels, with Dubai as its next destination.
According to Planespotters, the newly added aircraft is Ethiopian’s 11th Boeing 777F. The airline’s cargo fleet also includes four converted 737-800Fs, three converted 767-300Fs, and two recently delivered new-build 767-300Fs, with one additional 777F still on order.
Ethiopian Airlines operates a vast network, serving 70 dedicated cargo destinations and over 140 passenger routes across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Ethiopian Cargo offers specialized logistics services for a variety of goods, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, valuables, live animals, and e-commerce shipments.
The airline’s recent achievements include the recertification of its IATA CEIV Pharma accreditation for pharmaceutical logistics, which it first earned in 2022. This certification highlights Ethiopian Airlines’ excellence as both an airline and ground-handling agent.
Additionally, Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics inaugurated a state-of-the-art e-commerce logistics facility at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in March 2024, further enhancing its capabilities to meet the growing demand for air freight services.
