As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance sustainability across ground operations, Emirates SkyCargo, in partnership with Allied Transport Company, will integrate hydrogen-powered trucks into its fleet. These next-generation vehicles are currently in production and are set to join the fleet by the first quarter of 2026.
Emirates SkyCargo operates more than 60 trucks that connect Dubai World Central (DWC), Dubai International Airport (DXB), and various domestic locations. The addition of five hydrogen-powered trucks represents a significant step forward in the airline’s transition to alternative fuel vehicles and is expected to lower carbon emissions while contributing to improved air quality in the region.
These new hydrogen-powered trucks match the capabilities of their diesel counterparts, with each unit capable of transporting up to 28 tonnes of cargo. They will be refueled at two dedicated hydrogen stations in Dubai—Expo City and the Al Qudra DEWA station. A full tank provides a range of up to 700 kilometers, ensuring efficient, low-emission transport without disrupting service reliability.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, commented:
“Introducing hydrogen-powered trucks into our operations is a meaningful milestone in our journey to decarbonize ground logistics. We remain committed to integrating alternative fuels and scaling solutions that reduce our environmental impact, all while maintaining the exceptional service our customers expect.”
Allied Transport Company’s CEO, Mr. Ali Bin Beyat, echoed this vision, saying:
“Our research shows that hydrogen-powered trucks are a viable path to significant emissions reductions, independent of traditional energy sources. By partnering with Emirates SkyCargo, we are proud to support cleaner logistics across the UAE—especially in Dubai—in alignment with national sustainability goals and Emirates’ own green agenda.”
Designed as tractor units, the hydrogen trucks are compatible with a range of trailer types, enabling Emirates SkyCargo to serve diverse cargo requirements while minimizing environmental impact.
Reducing emissions is a cornerstone of Emirates’ Environmental Sustainability Framework. In 2023, the airline earned IATA’s Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Stage One certification, along with the IEnvA Illegal Wildlife Trade module—further validating its commitment to responsible, sustainable aviation and logistics practices.
