Nordisk Aviation has signed a landmark agreement with Emirates to supply up to 10,000 fire-resistant AKE containers, designed to mitigate risks associated with lithium-ion battery fires in baggage and cargo transport.
Enhanced Safety and Sustainability
These lightweight, fully recyclable containers provide superior fire protection while aligning with sustainability goals.
Rigorous Fire Testing with Emirates
To validate the effectiveness of its technology, Nordisk collaborated with Emirates on extensive fire testing beyond industry standards (SAE AS8992). The test included:
- 1,000 lithium-ion battery cells (18650 format)
- 60 pieces of luggage
- Flammable materials such as clothing, toiletries, and alcohol bottles
The Nordisk AKE container successfully contained the fire for six hours, preventing oxygen inflow while allowing safe gas escape, effectively stopping fire spread.
Aviation Safety Breakthrough
With lithium-ion battery fires posing major risks in air cargo, Emirates’ investment in fire-resistant technology reflects its proactive approach to flight safety.
This partnership sets new industry standards, reinforcing Emirates’ commitment to innovation, sustainability, and safer cargo operations worldwide.
