DHL eCommerce has opened a state-of-the-art sorting facility near Coventry Airport, UK, in response to rising demand for online parcel deliveries.

Spanning 25,000 sq m, the new hub is designed to handle both domestic and international e-commerce growth. It features a 48-door cross-dock facility, secure bonded storage, and customs capabilities to support expanding global trade.

The company said the facility will play a key role in boosting its market share in the UK.

This development is part of DHL eCommerce’s €560m UK investment announced in 2022, aimed at increasing capacity and advancing parcel automation.

Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL eCommerce, commented: “More than any other European market, e-commerce in the UK is booming and is projected to reach €207bn in turnover by 2029. With this latest addition to our network, we are significantly increasing our processing and sorting capacity, ensuring we can meet our customers’ needs and support their business growth.”

The site has achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability.

Stuart Hill, CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, added: “This investment underscores our confidence in British business and our commitment to driving innovation and best-in-class service in the digital marketplace. By expanding our capacity with a cutting-edge facility, we are creating long-term jobs, growth opportunities for our customers, and a blueprint for sustainable logistics.”

This marks DHL eCommerce’s second major expansion in recent weeks. Earlier this month, the company announced its entry into the Saudi Arabian market through an investment in AJEX Logistics Services.
