Time-critical logistics firm Carousel Logistics has expanded its UK operations with the opening of a new facility at Birmingham Airport, significantly improving transport efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
Strategically located near the M42 and M6 motorways, the new facility triples the company’s previous handling capacity. Previously, cargo arriving at Birmingham Airport was transported to Coventry—approximately 12 miles away—before reaching its final destination. Now, shipments can move directly from the airport, cutting unnecessary road miles and improving delivery speed.
Carousel estimates this strategic relocation will eliminate up to 50,000 miles of road transport annually, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing operational sustainability.
“Our new facility at Birmingham Airport will allow us to handle even greater volumes of cargo within the same tight time window,” said Andrew Lowery, UK Managing Director of Carousel Logistics. “With easy access to major motorways, Birmingham International station, new HS2 links, and our electric rail freight partner Varamis Rail, this investment will improve line-haul times and lower our environmental impact.”
In line with its long-term sustainability strategy, Carousel has also introduced lower-emission equipment at the new facility. Forklifts and belt loaders now run on electric power, while ground power units use HVO biofuel instead of diesel. Additionally, a fleet of electric vans has been deployed to support last-mile deliveries.
This expansion marks Carousel’s second major investment in the UK within the past year. In 2024, the company acquired Logik Logistics International to strengthen its cross-border express logistics network across Europe. This acquisition enhanced Carousel’s capabilities in time-critical transport solutions, including express road, airfreight, aircraft charter, on-board courier (OBC), and specialized handling services.
By expanding its presence at Birmingham Airport and investing in sustainable logistics, Carousel Logistics continues to enhance its efficiency, service offerings, and commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
