Brussels Airport cargo volume surges to 733,000 tonnes in 2024

Brussels Airport achieved a milestone in 2024, handling a total cargo volume of 732,797 tonnes, marking a 5% increase compared to 2023.

This growth aligns with the global cargo recovery trend and highlights the airport’s strengthening position as a key logistics hub.

Growth Across Segments
Flown cargo at Brussels Airport rose by 5% year-on-year, with belly cargo leading the charge, recording a 23% increase thanks to the recovery of passenger flights and the addition of new intercontinental routes. The full-freight segment remained stable, seeing a marginal rise of 0.1%, while the integrator segment experienced a slight dip of 0.2%.

New Airlines Join the Network
Brussels Airport welcomed four new airlines to its cargo operations in 2024: LATAM Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Farcargo, and Virgin Atlantic. These additions have expanded the airport’s global reach and contributed significantly to the increase in cargo volumes.

Regional Highlights
Asia dominated as the top import and export region for Brussels Airport in 2024, with Africa and North America also playing critical roles in import traffic. For exports, North America and Africa followed Asia as key markets.

December Boom
Cargo volumes at the airport surged in December, showing a remarkable 38% increase compared to December 2023. Flown cargo saw a sharp rise of 43%, driven by year-end demand and additional flights by LATAM Cargo. All cargo segments reported growth: full freight (+57%), express services (+28%), belly cargo (+49%), and trucked cargo (+14%).
