Avianca Cargo has launched scheduled cargo operations to Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, expanding its South American network and strengthening logistics links across the region.
The new service will connect Bolivia directly with Miami and Bogotá, providing businesses with improved access to key markets in North and South America while enhancing the country’s international freight connectivity.
The airline said the route would also benefit from its Bogotá hub, which serves as a major cargo consolidation centre, allowing shipments from Europe and other South American markets to reach Bolivia more efficiently.
New capacity for key industries
The service will be operated using Airbus A330 Freighter aircraft, offering up to 60 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight.
Avianca Cargo said the route is designed to support a broad range of cargo sectors, including mining, automotive components, pharmaceuticals, e-commerce and express courier shipments.
The additional capacity is expected to provide exporters and importers with greater flexibility and more efficient supply chain options, particularly for time-sensitive and specialised cargo.
Strengthening Bolivia’s international connectivity
The launch was delivered through collaboration between Bolivia’s Ministry of Public Works, Services and Housing, the country’s General Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC), the National Customs Service, airport operator NAABOL and Avianca Cargo.
Diogo Elías, Chief Executive of Avianca Cargo, said the new operation reflects the airline’s commitment to expanding trade links across the Americas.
“At Avianca Cargo, we continue to invest in the development of new markets, consolidating a network that drives more efficient connections between the Americas and the world,” he said.
Mr Elías added that the launch was particularly significant because it strengthens Bolivia’s connectivity and supports the growth of the country’s international trade sector.
Expanding cargo opportunities across Latin America
The addition of Viru Viru International Airport further expands Avianca Cargo’s presence in Latin America, where demand for air freight continues to grow alongside cross-border trade and e-commerce activity.
The carrier said the new route will create additional opportunities for businesses across the region while reinforcing its role as a strategic logistics partner connecting Latin American markets with North America, Europe and global supply chains.
Industry observers view the move as another step in the continued development of South America’s air cargo infrastructure, helping improve access to international markets and supporting economic growth through enhanced freight connectivity.
