Pharma.Aero, a global collaborative platform for healthcare logistics, has announced Athens International Airport (AIA) as its newest member. AIA, the largest and busiest airport in Greece and the Balkans region, joins Pharma.Aero to enhance its role in the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Trevor Caswell, Chair of Pharma.Aero, welcomed AIA, stating, “By integrating Athens International Airport into our collaborative network, Pharma.Aero not only acknowledges the airport’s regional importance but also strengthens its footprint in the Mediterranean region. We are thrilled to collaborate and leverage our industry expertise to drive innovative projects that yield substantial value for our industry and enhance access to healthcare for people worldwide.”

AIA received its IATA CEIV Pharma certification in 2023, underscoring its commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical logistics. Since 2016, AIA has been Greece’s first carbon-neutral airport and, through its “Route 2025” initiative, has committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2025, far ahead of the ACI Europe target of 2050. It is also the first European airport to launch multi-modal flows combining maritime, road, and air traffic.

Lina Palli, IATA CEIV Pharma Coordinator for the Athens Cargo Community, expressed the airport’s enthusiasm, stating, “At AIA, we strongly believe in collaboration and synergies. By joining Pharma.Aero, we will not only join an international network of experts and gain valuable knowledge to share with our local partners, but we will also support Pharma.Aero’s mission of promoting a seamless pharmaceutical supply chain.”

The Cargo Development team at AIA oversees all freight and mail handling activities, coordinating the airport’s cargo community and leading new developments. This membership marks a significant step in enhancing AIA’s capabilities and contributions to global healthcare logistics.
